Legit situation in one of the Pokemon games too. You pick the woman character because her character is very....girly lmao and so she does a lot of additional cutesy wootsy bullshit that New Horizons Items takes time up when she is an NPC. The man character is quite stoic compared and cuts out all of the excess stuff. That's just the kind of thing that is ruining D&D right now, you joke about it people are legitimately fighting Orc rights. That the concept of owning a race that leans towards bad alignment in a world where orientation is important and enforced with magic that exists in universe is racist.
Were they say they are removing'race' for next entries because iT wAs rAcIsT? You pick your own today so that you may be a strong elf or a smart orc.
They didn't really even eliminate racial bonuses, they gave you the choice to alter them if you want.
The thing is, people might have been doing this anyway, but now it's from the official rules for 5e. If individuals do not desire evil orcs, they could just not have bad orcs in their campaign, it is so simple.I listen to Not Another D&D Podcast and their campaign exists in a universe where interbreeding is a thing for millenia, so that there are no"races". Every being is a multitude of distinct racial aspects.
For player characters it allow the players select one civic"course" while having their character look however the want, and all beings are very"human-monster hybrid".
Eg. Emily's PC, Fia, is portrayed as being violet peeled and fanged, slightly"orcish" in her face however extended and gangly elven physique. It's a mishmash of different descriptions that works good having a"look how you would like, but apply a race's attributes".
It is also an optional rule. I personally think it is a little OP since you can chose a feat on every race (a feat is essentially like a talent and some are extremely strong), but in the long run it's to create your character more elastic when you wish to play with an Orc Wizard f.e. and do not have much use for your bonus strength. It's more fun because you can play any race as any class but it makes races just another piece of fluff details which you tell your party once and they then overlook the whole game that their wizard is a half-orc.
In addition to the entire thing began because a bunch of people were complaining about orcs being racist because they are D&D depiction of buy Animal Crossing Items black individuals apparently, even though humans are a distinct race...
