RuneScape - The next update is the Evolution of Combat...

Magic and RuneScape gold ranged became their own distinct classes. The spring 2005 and 2004 updates brought magic and ranged high tier armors, as well as brand different attacks (e.g. the Ancient Magicks Spell Book) that give you greater access to arrows and runes. This enhanced the effectiveness of these classes and they could be considered to be on par with the melee class.

But the calculation remained unchanged. This would allow a maximum ranged magic player (let’s take a guess at 99 Defense or 99 Ranged/Maged), to be level 100-110 while a melee maxed user to be about level 120. (These figures are estimates, of course, as they do not include prayer points or hitpoints). This gives Ranged players or Magic players a substantial advantage over Melee players when playing in PvP.

The next update is the Evolution of Combat update, which skips eight years. The update is able to balance the triangle of combat. The combat classes are not "arguably equal" however they are clearly balanced. Jagex developers decided to abandon the 138 combat formula (the maximum combat levels were raised from 126 to 138 due to Summoning) to go with the current/past (depending how far in the future this formula was read).

The 200 formula considers all classes as equal. For instance, 99 Ranged and 99 Defense players will have the same combat levels to 99 Magic and 99 defense players. Problem fixed, right?

It's pretty much. Although the 200 method isn't perfect (the main problem is that prayer isn't considered into account) however, it is still superior to the old system when it comes to scaling players. However, the 200 calculation was a bit flawed in a way that buy old school runescape gold it could not escape the issue of nostalgia.
