If the shift in the game's philosophy was not clear prior to d2r items it's clear now. Since Diablo II: Resurrected patch 2.4 scheduled to be released at the beginning of next year, following some testing on the game's newly launched public test world it won't be the identical RPG players grew up playing. The patch 2.4 comes as the initial balance patch to Diablo II since patch 1.13c was released in March of 2010 which brought changes to the class skills as well as updates for recruitable mercenaries in the game, new Runewords and much more for the first times in over 10 years.
What is the reason these changes are taking place now, rather than to the time of launch? In an interview conducted recently by Diablo II: Resurrected producer Matt Cederquist and principal designer Rob Gallerani, the plan was always to get the game that fans were familiar with and enjoying to the market prior to looking towards the future.
"The main reason why we did not get out with this change in balancein the first place was that we wanted to make sure that we provided players with a genuine feeling," Gallerani said. "If we released something different from the way they remember it we'd have not succeeded on that front. The thing that was amazing was that when the landing was announced We were pretty confident that we had succeeded in delivering the landing. However, the immediate feedback was"Well, how do you tweak this, or modify this, or add a metas, or even add more items similar to this.' We were so thrilled to to bring that forward."
The aim for patch 2.4, Gallerani said, is to make more builds for classes feasible, and in addition to making the game fully balanced.
"The way we approached it is that we're not with anything nerfing, are we?" the man declared. "We are aware that everyone loves Hammerdin. We're not taking that away from anyone. If you enjoyed your builds and D2R items cheap you still do, you will continue to cherish the build."
